Why Counselling?

A question you may be asking yourself, why counselling? Each adult, young person or child I have worked with have expressed their own unique answer or reason for coming to counselling and as a Therapeutic and Certified Online and Telephone Person-Centred Counsellor the way I work with you will be unique and tailored to you.

As an experienced Counsellor I am only too aware of how common it is to struggle on day after day, month after month or even years with difficulties, problems, losses and anxieties without ever seeking out any personal support for yourself.

Facing difficult life events, adjusting to a long-term health condition or living with somebody with a medical condition, feeling stuck or dissatisfied, going through relationship problems, transitions, moving house, recent changes in mood or mind set, loss of a sense of direction or purpose, experiencing friction within the family, experiencing chronic losses, bereavements, confusion and redundancy to name just a few can all alter how you feel, think and behave.

Discussing your problem in a relationship where you will be free from judgement and feel safe, supported and accepted will help you pinpoint and make sense of your relationships.  It can also help you to understand and make meaning behind some of your feelings, thoughts, emotions and behaviours. The process will enable you to find your own inner resources to deal with the problem or issue in your own unique way. Counselling can also provide clarity, develop and gain personal insights, provide personal understanding, develop strategies and increase self-awareness, self-esteem, self-expression and self-development.

What to expect?

As a Therapeutic Counsellor I am fully aware that talking about yourself, your problems, your thoughts and your feelings can be a daunting, uncomfortable and sometimes a fearful situation to be in.  I will try to help, support and ease you through this process as much as possible, giving you as much clear information as I can as I go along.  I will go through with you prior to our first meeting what to expect and I will try my best to answer any questions you may have regarding our first meeting and the process as a whole.

During our first session we will explore at your pace the reason/s you have decided to come to counselling and agree together a way forward which suits your needs.

Person-Centred counselling can help you with a wide range of personal issues and problems.  As we work together and as you experience the 'autonomy' within the counselling room, you may find it becomes less daunting and as a result you may feel that you want to address other issues or problems as and when they come up for you.  My part in the process is not to evaluate, judge or give you advice in any way because each client and each situation is different and unique.

I do believe the non-directive style of Person-Centred counselling can benefit all.
